Introduction to Leonardo and the Leo 40 event in New Mexico

...

Involving groups like Institute for Advanced studies...

Visualization...

Getting visibility, this conference to get this content out to the rest of New Mexico...

Use of National Lambda Rail... connecting the distance learning, internet to the hogans... places like Crownpoint

aesthetic of self-similarity... appearance of fractal phenomena... as a kind of underlying theme. what have we evolved to find beautiful?

User created content... here are assets we have NGRC, datasets available to kids, artists, mashup theme

possibility of including more user created material...

sky survey stuff... a not so virtual tour of the universe using actual data, from art to biology, etc.

what's our scope of involvement? how much can this group contribute?

We think they'll be interested in getting our input and suggestions... about content, but also locations around the state... White Sands, LANL, SFI...

But keeping a balance between the art and the science activities...

How about a helicopter tour of the other side of the state.
(Eclipse flight? Military support?) Try to get Virgin Galactic involved... that scale makes sense

Taking the balloon example... and then looking at, say, spider silk and the possibility of

Academy for the Love of Learning might be a potential sponsor...

Interactive session between artists throughout the state, marry visualization and music, have a demonstration (from Bowles)

How to run parallel events, and build connectors... part of the idea though is that some ideas will bubble up... new opportunities...

possibility of other partners outside the US... Tom Bowles and Chris Wood recent trip to Japan... their interest.

Present challenges to the attendees? we have a problem that we can't get visibility across the state (for example) what solutions can people come up with to solve a problem? kind of a treasure hunt...

Mashup day, like something Google is doing... bio and chemical mashups?

universal scope of the questions being asked... questions like water use, limited resources, etc.

Ideas on keynotes?

emotional response by robots by Cynthia Brazil? picking up cues and responding... nonlinear adaptive system... perhaps design international games where people from different cultures respond to each other's cues...

different ways of doing that...

watershed thinking... Bill debollize (sp?) musician at college of Santa Fe (work with David Dunn?) ecological thinking in NM. the walking book?

Topic of energy , providence technology Jim Manatt
http://www.provtech.com/index.html

bio energy... algae diesel...

cd's fro people in their cars driving around... itunes driving around... previous idea of DVD's, movies, seminars that would occur on a bus ride... (done for grantmakers) (dona ana branch college looking for projects.... rebecca kongs has already offered support!)

ask for possible people for the program committee...

the need/desire to have more info on the theme.

studio tours... possibly for the biennial, possibly have the curator in town... other tours and activities for

talk with MESA group... about involvement...

a collage... 40 images... it's something computers do... reflecting diversity...

complexity and cultural diversity

what was going on at the time of Leonardo da vinci

time collage...

40 images within the leo emblem

40 images technology (what is technology?)
what is the most important technological development in the past 40 years...

connecting kids... leads to interesting conversations... what are the best/most... 40

combine resources from different DCS divisions...

sounds like we have a default theme/structure...

program committee should work on sponsor...

Robert Foster design at SpacePort America
Kathy Harper at spaceport museum

Archao astronomy... Chaco... Tours, but management of them will be key...

CalTech idea lab...

SPONSORS
Academy for the Love of Learning (Seton will contact)
Virgin Galactic
Donate a day of capacity... ask Qwest where they could help (idea from Miner -- connecting the gridjam/performance event)

Tesla motors (had to be beautiful and perform)
Josh Newburg? X-Prize

this can be a community blog

hosted at (or uploaded automatically to) the ARTS Lab wesite...

We'll remove these posts before things go live, but it could be handy, and we can add calendars, bits of html, widgety things, etc.

visit http://nm-media.blogspot.com for one relatively easy example...

One thing that might be difficult is the requirement to use the 'classic' templates... though I'd recommend experimenting with the others.
