skateDeckConsortium for Fulldome and Immersive Technology Development (Award #0917919)

INTRODUCTION – PARTNERS - MAJOR ACTIVITES- PHOTO/VIDEOWHAT’S NEXT

The ARTS Lab is a member of a consortium developing the hardware and software to make it possible to use fulldome and other multi-projector installations as interactive, multisurface environments that help people visualize, simulate, or experientially comprehend a wide range of information, from educational and artistic material to evaluating scientific data and complex systems.  The goal of this research is to enable scientists, artists, performers, and educators to have an accessible and versatile means to make use of immersive systems.  The creation of toolsets that are open source, low cost alternatives to commercial solutions will stimulate an environment of innovative competition for the applications of interactive immersive.  These toolsets will enable entrepreneurs, artists, scientists and educators to create original content for immersive systems and to port existing material into an immersive display with minimal effort.

In addition the project will develop applications to allow further expansion of immersive content in the core areas of visualization, simulation, security, and education.  The principal partners will work with our industry partners and advisors to enhance the burgeoning digital media industry in New Mexico.  With the support of the partnering educational institutions working together with local entrepreneurs, work from this project will be spun out into new toolsets and business opportunities.  This work will strengthen the existing relationships between the principal partners and local digital media industry by providing commercial opportunities out of academic research.
