Scanning the Underground—Prairie Dog Habitats in Scanning the Underground—Prairie Dog Habitats in 3D Beneath the streets of Santa Fe, a hidden world exists—one shaped by Gunnison prairie dogs. With the Artec Leo 3D scanner, researchers at ARTS Lab are mapping the underground burrows at St. Francis & Cerrillos, revealing the intricate structures these animals create beneath urban landscapes. Led by Catherine Harris (Chair, Dept. of Landscape Architecture), this project sheds light on how wildlife adapts to city life. The goal? Free Artist Talk! Melissa Dubbin & Aaron S. Davids Free Artist Talk! Melissa Dubbin & Aaron S. Davidson 5:30pm Thursday Feb 20, 2025 ARTSLab (131 Pine St. NE) Free & Open to the Public dubbin-davidson.com Melissa Dubbin and Aaron S. Davidson are artists based in Brooklyn, New York. Together they have co-authored works across a variety of mediums. Dubbin and Davidson apply collaborative processes in their practice and engagement with materials. Their works are characterized by transformations of the biological and mechanical; gemstones record, metals have memory, sounds are given shape and fluids hydrate machines. Their recent projects explore relations between the environment, computing and artificial life forms. In 2022 Dubbin and Davidson were each awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in the Creative Arts from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Their work was recently featured in rīvus, the 23rd Biennale of Sydney, Australia (2022), BioMedia, The Age of Media with Life-like Behavior at ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Germany (2021-22) and IF THE SNAKE, Okayama Art Summit, Okayama, Japan (2019). In 2020/21 they were artists-in-residence at EPFL Pavilions, Lausanne, Switzerland. Their work is held in several private and public collections including a recent acquisition by the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. Aaron S. Davidson (b. 1971 Madison, Wisconsin) received an MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College and a BA from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Davidson teaches at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. Melissa Dubbin (b. 1976 Las Cruces, New Mexico) is a graduate of the Masters Program of Experimentation in Art and Politics (SPEAP) at SciencesPo, Paris and received a BA from the College of Santa Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dubbin teaches at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. About Gale Memorial Lecture Series Gale Memorial Lecture Series was established in memory of Dr. David his wife Sylvia whose generosity made the series possible. This is event co-sponsored by the Department Art and ARTSLab. All Gale Memorial Lectures are free and open to public.
